September, 2021: There's a new work in my mixed media folder and shown above.

December, 2020: Well, you'll notice there's not much new on my website. There seem to be two general reactions to the pandemic. One is a burst of creativity engendered by the many events happening around us. The other is the kind I've been having, a general lethargy around artwork. I have been focused more on taking care of my physical body through a lot of exercise (cycling, golf) and being out in nature. I'm hoping my creative side will return eventually because I'm paying $16 a month for this website!!
In the meanwhile, I'm offering 50% off on all available artwork on the website. Having more room to store artwork would help my spirit immensely so help me clean house!!

October, 2019: It's time for my show at Stripe Men in Santa Cruz. There's a reception as part of Santa Cruz First Friday on October 4 from 5-8pm. and the work is up until October 29. Stripe is located at 117 Walnut Street in Santa Cruz.

Stripe is located at 107 and 117 Walnut Street in Santa Cruz. They have very nice clothing and also household items.

November, 2018: Works San Jose's Annual Art Auction is coming up. This is where really smart people go to buy good work for bargain prices. I've donated an encaustic and collage piece entitled, "A Strong Woman." There's an image of it in my mixed media folder.

August, 2018: I've just taken an "Introduction to Spoon Carving" class at Cabrillo College summer arts extension. Cabrillo has so many good classes it's hard to decide which to take. This class was taught by woodcarver and boat builder Inka Petersen.

This class made me appreciate just how much work goes into these basic, everyday objects. It was exhausting, slightly dangerous, and produced many wood chips.

March, 2018: Villa Montalvo has some great one-night classes. I am taking an Experimental Watercolor class in March. It's taught by Dana Harel.

February, 2018: My mixed media piece, "Effect of Fraud", was included in the Works San Jose Anti-Valentine show.

December, 2017: Another successful Works San Jose Auction, where my painting, "Waffle Iron and Fork" was sold to a local collector. Works San Jose is a wonderful supporter of local and emerging artists.

Closing Art Reception: Friday, December 1 from 6 to 9pm.

Art Ark Gallery is located at 1035 S. 6th Street, San Jose, CA 95112

Summer, 2017: The Ray Ashley Collection was featured at the Triton Museum in Santa Clara, and one of my small paintings on copper was shown in the entry to the show. Ray purchased 5 of my pieces from both the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art and Works/San Jose over the years. Works previously had a similar show, Ray's World, showing his collection.

Fall, 2016: Well, I've survived being Chair of the San Jose Museum of Art Docent Council and a community volunteer Trustee of the Museum for the last 2 years. So I am looking forward to having more time to work now.

I am donating a mixed media piece, "The Global Economy", to the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art Fall Auction. I'm pretty sure it will be in the Silent Auction to be held on October 8th.

Spring, 2016: Cabrillo College has some great short classes. I just took an Encaustic class from Beverly Rayner, a well-known encaustic artist, and I'll be posting some work from the class soon.

Also, there is new work in Mixed Media and Works on Paper.

September, 2014: There is lots of new work in the Paintings folder and a new piece in Mixed Media work as well.

August, 2014: The WORKS/San Jose show, A Crack in the Earth, opens Friday, September 5. I have a mixed media piece titled The Global Economy in the show. The show runs through September 20. I'll post some photos soon but my new camera takes images that are too big for this website!!

August, 2014: I can't believe how long it's been since I have put new work on my website. I'll be posting some new paintings in the next day or two.

I am getting ready for my October show at WORKS/San Jose "The Public is Personal". Together with artists Karen Haas and Alexanna Alvarado, we'll be looking at ways that we reveal ourselves when we are out in public and feel anonymous. Stay tuned.

July, 2013: It's that time again, for the Works/San Jose auction. The exhibit runs from August 2 to 17 and the auction is on August 17, with a preview at 5pm. The auction begins at 7pm.

June, 2013: Did you know that Cabrillo College has a summer art camp for adults? I just completed a two week class there with Kim Anno, who teaches at California College of the Arts and is an amazing teacher. I completed two paintings there. They are in the Paintings folder, titled Sinks and Flooding.
I also took a painting class from Ernest Regua in the springtime.

January, 2013: I have added a new folder on this site, Wood, featuring some of the furniture, boxes and other things I have made. There are also photos of my kitchen remodel, which some have asked to see. The kitchen was redone using completely salvaged materials, broken down and reassembled to fit my house. It took me the better part of a year. If anyone offers you free solid surface counters, take them! It is like butter to work with.

Funny that the kitchen photos look a lot like some of my paintings!

I am participating in Community Advice with Susan O'Malley by hanging an Advice sign in my neighborhood for all to enjoy. I'll be adding some photos of the sign soon.

November, 2012: I have just made this website html so you can view it from an iphone or other non-flash device. If you have any comments or issues, I would appreciate your contacting me to let me know.

October, 2012: I have added a new piece, Effect of Fraud, in the mixed media folder.
My friend, Karen Haas, and I have been going out in the community doing watercolor lately. We're trying to focus on places that are endangered by development.
I recently had an interesting art experience contributing my thoughts to an installation by Ranu Mukharjee called Telling Fortunes currently at the San Jose Museum of Art. Mukharjee's work ponders how our global nomadic lifestyle affects us here in the Santa Clara Valley. She was seeking people to share their thoughts on how this had affected them so I spent a morning visiting with her at what remains of Almaden Vineyards, where my father was winemaster and I had my first job.
She took my thoughts and those of others and wove them into some beautiful videos, paintings and mixed media on sari fabric.

April, 2012: It's time for Veggielution's fundraiser again. I've donated
The Bees Are Really Mad for their auction to be held on April 13 from 7 to 10pm. Go to Veggielution.org for further information.

October, 2011 to April, 2012 (approx): I am having a show in the curatorial area at the San Jose Museum of Art called "Slice of Life". The work ranges from oil paintings to etchings to small, wall-mounted sculpture. Because it is in a work area, please contact me if you would like a personal tour of the show.
The timing of the show coincides with SJMA's exhibit of the work of Joan Brown called "This Kind of Bird Flies Backward". Joan Brown did such a great job of painting her quotidian experiences while referencing art history eloquently.
This site will soon have a folder showing installation pictures of the exhibit.

Summer, 2011: I have spent this summer redoing my kitchen. Lots of fun making new cabinets out of reused wood that a very nice person gave me.

March, 2011: A great program in San Jose, Veggielution, runs a nonprofit community farm seeking to create a sustainable food system in San Jose. Their annual fundraiser is on April 15th at Kaleid Art Gallery in San Jose. All the art to be auctioned will have food/nature as a theme. I am donating the painting Tomatoes and Shovels. For more information go to
www.veggielution.org/avantgarden

September, 2010: San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art celebrates its 30th anniversary this year with not one but two auctions. The first is a silent auction on October 1 and a live auction on October 23. My mixed media piece, Evolution, will be in the silent auction. Tickets are available at
www.sjica.org
The very first show in which I participated was at SJICA so I feel a little nostalgic about it. And they offer great printmaking classes.

August, 2010: Goodwill Industries and Sustainable San Mateo are holding their first-ever Art Auction on August 12 at Menlo College. Tickets to the Auction can be purchased from
http://ssmcgoodwill.eventbrite.com/

July, 2010: We have gone to Boston, New Haven and Washington DC this summer and seen a lot of art, at the (relatively) new Boston ICA (what a great building, only one show of their permanent collection was open but very enjoyable) the Yale Art Gallery (like walking through your Art History textbook!) and, in DC, the worst member gallery I ever saw!! Thought-provoking to see such a wide range of art in one week.

Come support this local institution that supports local artists.

Summer, 2009: I'm taking a watercolor class at Palo Alto Art Center this summer. I am also making a desk that can be taken completely apart for moving.

On May 1, 2009 from 5 to 7pm, there will be an artists' reception for "Late Monday Afternoon" at North First ARTSpace located at 2665 North First Street in San Jose. I hope you can attend. There will be food, wine and a classical guitarist.
